I always drank water straight from the well growing up. We had 4 wells in a straight line over about 500ft, 2 where within 100ft of each other, all had different water..... from rain water soft to hard as a cold chisel. The well we used mostly was 150’ deep, water was a little hard but plenty to run the whole house. Well out back was 150’ away and 250’ deep, water so soft it would lather up like shaving cream. Sorry started rambling.....
Feedman, 1951 ford, PoleCrusher and 20 others Thank this. -
Everyone talking about drinking water.......
You know what was said to us at a WV Water Well Drillers Association meeting one time???
Many drillers were complaining about the new Health Dept rules on water well drillers. This meeting concerned (Casing installation) . This was years ago when city water had not been pumped to every holler in the country.
Health Dept guy agreed that city water was bad for you, but the chemicals probably wouldn’t kill you no faster than the germs that could possibly be in the water. I truly hate being away from well water.
If a person has access to a good clean well, you might try taking a few gallons with you on the road??
I think back to the days of seeing Uncle Lester testing the water from a well he had just finished. He always gave the homeowner a copy of the test results. We kept the rigs clean and painted. Babbitt get to worn on the jackshaft we would pour new Babbitt, you could hear a Rig with loose bearings for a country mile. The moonlighters bought a junk rig, throwed casing in the hole, and hoped to get paid with cash money.... get rich quick mentality! You know like some steering wheel holders of today. -
The worst by far was the walking beam1951 ford, PoleCrusher, Slowpoke KW and 13 others Thank this.

First time I spent anytime away from Home as a kid, the first chance I got went to mom, and dads and took a shower. Always felt cleaner than any city water. Big old glass of cold well water that is almost as dipping your cup in the tank in the milk parlor! Don't get much fresher.

Like a buck board ! ..more like a Bram bull on steroids. And don't even get me started on hendrickson extended leaf walking beam.....didn't feel any different. Only thing good bout walking beams is you could blast through almost any terrain and not get stuck.
