    Really @stwik ,you don't need to fully wrap your mind around it. If you ever get the chance it will make sense pretty quickly.

    I did drive a 4x4 air shift spicer one time, I don't know if it had problems or if it was just me, but I never was able to shift that air shift brownie without it grinding.

    I know. But some of the stuff y’all bring up in here goes way over my head. It’s not so much that I feel left out or anything — just that the knowledge passed around in here is invaluable and I rather learn what I can even if I need to do some extra curricular reading :)

    With that being said... first hand knowledge and experience triumphs all. Hands down.

    I think there’s a misconception with guys that have never driven theses older trucks. I think they think you take a 237 Mack or 290 Cummins with a 5 and 4 and it’ll run 90 with a load. They had these transmissions just to pull period. They wouldn’t pull fast but they would pull. As horsepower increased gears decreased. You could pull a 100,000 with a Briggs and Stratton if you had enough gears it would just be slow.
