I wish lol
A good starting point is to have a good seperator or dryer setup. Unfortunately running a service truck I don't really have that option. The air is really dry up here so the only tools I really seem to have freeze ups with are tools that use a lot of air and get used for extended periods of time (air hammer and die grinder usually). Sometimes the impact if I'm doing track pads or something demanding like that. Usually I put them back in the heated cabinet if I don't need them for a few minutes to keep them warm and I'll run an anti-icing air tool oil through them every 5-10 minutes of continuous use.Oxbow, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 7 others Thank this. -
Interesting, we were fighting with frozen tools all day Thursday and I was telling our mechanics about you working on the tundra for a living. They told me to ask you what you did.

Another thing to keep in mind is if your guys are using air from the shop and running a line outdoors into the cold you're going to have a lot more icing issues with condensation from the warm air cooling off. My truck has a 70 cfm underhood compressor so its drawing in air that is already cold/void of moisture. The few times we did tracks outside in winter with shop air we had tons of freeze ups. About every 3-5 pads we were taking the air line off the wall and dumping that air tool oil/antifreeze down the hose to keep everything thawed. We'd even go as far as alternating tools. Mine would warm up in the shop and we'd switch them out once the other guy's tools froze. Nothing happens quick at -30 lol.Oxbow, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 10 others Thank this.

We were running a screw compressor on the service trucks so they were pulling cold air.Oxbow, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 7 others Thank this.

I have noticed up here that the colder it is, the dryer the air is. Guess its a bit of an advantage in a real twisted way lol.Oxbow, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 8 others Thank this.
