It had been there a while when I looked at it. She said she would not get rid of it since it belonged to her dad, and I can appreciate that.

  3. @1951 ford I've only processed the bill in my maintance logs and wife files it as a maintance cost. Never gone back to ask for w9 or 1099.

    Sounds fishy

Over $500/yr in certain services paid with cash or check (not parts vendors), you're supposed to issue a 1099. If you paid with a credit card, it's already issued on a 1099-K. Uncle Sam HATES cash. He wants to make sure he can steal, er, tax every single moving dollar he can.

I give a W-9 to the ranch since I do a lot of shop work for them...but I am usually billing them for something every month. I also gove one to the guy I'm leased to, but again, I'm invoicing him for some kind of mechanic work every month.

The "once in a while" customers never ask for it.

Now here in PA, out of state companies have to submit your purchase totals to the state. I've gotten notices from a few places with totals. PA wants their sales tax no matter where you buy it. Luckily 99% of everything I buy is exempt through either my business, the farm, or trucking, but I wonder how many people's returns will be flagged for audits when they haven't paid any use tax.

All I bother with is what the feds need. We don't do any state tax in Wyoming, personal or corporate.

No 1099 if it’s a corporation, I 1099 when I pay trucking companies that are single member LLC’s but not single member or corporate repair vendors.
I doubt it’ll change much for you to do it.
