My first ride was in a red late 80s early 90s 379 with a 70" able body sleeper that my dad drove for my grandfather...after a couple years of that he got a Western Star black with red stripes and a 444 cummins.
I remember they did alot of steel hauling around Detroit and I remembered the Detroiter as such a cool stop and I said to him a couple years ago "Dad, the Detroiter is a #### hole now" and he said "it was then too but you were too young to realize"cke, VTech, whoopNride and 16 others Thank this. -
Good memories! Yep it is Dallas Pike, stopped there many times myself. Even in a 76 Peterbilt Patriot Cabover
. I miss the chrome shop the way it was, now it's up over top of the TA Truckstop.
cke, Crusader66, 4mer trucker and 9 others Thank this. -
They run through here on K-61 heading to Pratt to catch US 54 to the south and west on a fairly regular basis.
If you've not passed the convoy before, it goes something like this.
4 tires that hold air (anything beyond that is a bonus), check!
A place to attach a tow bar (safely/correctly attached is another bonus), check!
Magnetic towing lights (they worked when we left), check!
I cringe when I see these going by and hope they get far away before something goes wrong.
That looks about like the correct size bean serving for that meal.
cke, Crusader66, 4mer trucker and 9 others Thank this. -
They run out west on 40 too. I used to go to the car auctions at Clinton and Altus a lot. They were almost always there. There’s some real good guys, and of course a few losers that’ll cross your plug wires just before your car rolls into the lane.cke, Feedman, Crusader66 and 9 others Thank this.

Stopped by the house a minute. Doc is so happy to see me I guess he thought I left him for ever lmao. I gotta admit it ain't the same without him.
I can't say I remember my first ride in a truck, but one of my earliest memories is being with my Uncle Bill in the black 359 he had at the Union 76 in Effingham IL. He woke me up said come on we gotta eat and get us a shower when we leave here we gotta step a minute. While I was eating my open face roast beef sammich with brown gravy my Dad comes pullin into the fuel island. I sat there and watched his whole routine then we hid from him till he got sat down to eat, Uncle Bill had me walk and sit down real calm and jyst say what you doin LMAO. That's the only time I was ever able to Indian up on pop. Course he didn't let it show real calm the reply was nothing much just ridin the clutch.
He was still driving the pale yellow 351 with the mercury bunk on it. Alcoa wheels on the steer chrome steels on the drives.OLDSKOOLERnWV, cke, sawmill and 13 others Thank this. -
“Nuthin much just ridin the clutch.”

Took a nap at exit 91 (Purcell) on 35. Makin’ rounds from Mill Creek to El Reno is the order of the day.OLDSKOOLERnWV, cke, 1951 ford and 13 others Thank this. -
My first memory in a semi was a mid 70's F model Mack, as far as "bigger" trucks the neighbors when I was a kid harvested our crops and stuff had two International loadstars. They had a red one and a blue one, gas motors and two speed rears. I road in those a lot, while they drank beer, spit tobacco on the floor and cussed. Great experience for a 5 year old. When I think about it I don't think times are better.
OLDSKOOLERnWV, whoopNride, 1951 ford and 11 others Thank this.
