Where is everyone #5

The change in bore was planned. I have no idea why. Chevy had spent so much money advertising the 396 that it was a corporate decision to not spend any money advertising the 402. Probably to avoid confusion about it being a new or different engine. Only difference is the bore from what I've read. On those 72 Chevy's I've seen 400 emblems in two places on the front quarter panels. The one I had was located low and behind the tire. I've seen two others that were mounted in front of the tire and towards the top of the fender. Both of those were 400 small blocks. Mine was the 402 big block even though the emblem was the same as the others but the mounting location is the clue from the few I've seen.

 

We seem to have lost @Heavy Hammer somewhere and hope @Logan76 is doing ok.

Looks like some dealers installed the bigger 427 for customers. And 396’s came with 4 bolt mains.

The Charbroiler edition isn't ready for publication yet. Not enough forests left to cut down and make paper to print it on. They're hoping that there's enough memory in the 3 IBM Mainframe computers they've got now to get it on an internet version.
Still not sure though.

 

Neighbor had a C10 pickup with the 400 badge in the grill, but it was a BB 402. They did some crazy stuff.
