You will be surprised at how well they wear. That slick coating does a really good job preventing scuffs from the sand. The paint will fade and wear but the aluminum lasts better than you would think. Especially since it's so thin. It outlasts the aluminum tape that I've seen.
Although it's still just a short term patch.

I was gonna say the same thing. A little sanding will help it stick.
