    That was my plan 5 years ago. One truck and me.... that’s it!!!

    Spent my whole adult life chasing employees for someone else.

    Maybe if I was younger? I’m not totally opposed to a fleet but not in my plans.

    Same thing, every time I go in the office for paperwork I have to listen to an hour of the owner complaining.

    I said “I know a person that can fix that for you? You look at him ever morning in the mirror.”

    We seem to have a lot of that going on in the world today. Do I want to be a boy or girl? Oh well, I''ll adjust the best I can. Carry on.

    Dad had 30 rigs and a handful of O/O leased on. Wanted to know if I wanted to take over when he got up in years. I declined. Years later I ran anywhere from 12 to 15. Heavyhaul and dump. Aprox. 11 years ago I had enough. Sold everything and kept one. Wife says my demeanor changed overnight. I'm not as big of a pr##k. ......fooled her ! LOL

    Dad had 3 hauling steel, Him and Mom would say financially it was good but that was it. He went back to one. Now I spent a lot of years taking care of fleets of trucks, that was great. One 50 truck fleet, 300 trailers, one 100 truck fleet. But when I got to the point of managing people and trucks is were I decided I didn't wanna live that way. Its been 7 years now and I'm getting back to enjoying wrenching on stuff finally. On my time clock, not someonelses.

    After last night run in the dark I have come to the conclusion that I'm gland ELD longs are a reality. I ran from Gadsden Bama to Zanesville Oh. Getting here around 5:30 am. .....what a great drive barely any traffic from bout 11 pm to 5 am. Didn't have to dodge the wheel holders or chew someone a new one.....I'm in a happy mood !! All those electric drivers were sittin in their parking spots counting the hours till the box said they could go !

    @superhauler

    Funny part, my last job I loved. Me and the owners were mostly on the same page. I would go back to work for him if I ever had too. He has asked a few times. But he has a son my age and I only see problems later when he would be gone. But the turning point was on my honeymoon with wife sitting on the beach, Im still taking calls and one guy calls and asks me what kinda grease to use on skytrak. He had been the one servicing the off road equipment for years. Silly but that was the moment I put my phone down and told the wife, When we get home some changes are gonna happen! So bought a truck, and got to run a few years with Dad. Best thing I ever did.

    When you worked for my old man. Drivers were required to grease their trucks and change a flat on the road (Dayton wheels).....try that today with the hired help ! When i had my crew on a rig move, on our off days i would get the boys to work on the equipment, greasing, minor maintanence and such. I had a few that would flat out refuse, saying they were hired to drive only......they did not keep their jobs long !
