We had the kids out there couple years ago, but didn't go on any tours. I believe they have limited access to what you can see on the tours now since sept 11th.
Before 9 1 1 I had gone on a tour there and they took you inside the dam. They showed one room where pipes run underneath it that carry water from the inlet towers to the turbines. The whole room was shaking from the water rushing through them. They also took us down inside the dam where we could walk in a tunnel to look out a vent on the face of the dam. We got to walk through the room that houses the massive turbines also.
I enjoy going out there and seeing it whenever I can. The whole structure just amazes me.
Good eye @Oxbow!

That dam was quite a feat to build, and if I remember correctly there are a number of folks that died during construction, that remain encased in the concrete. As I recall, the concrete pours we're so massive that if someone fell in, they could not stop the process in an attempt to save them.snowman_w900, 1951 ford, 4mer trucker and 10 others Thank this.

I read that wasn't true because the body created a void the weakened the concrete. There is neat video of them pouring the concrete, it was pretty innovative at the time.snowman_w900, 1951 ford, SAR and 8 others Thank this.
