My start into the world of motorcycles started on a 1972 CB350 2 banger. Along the way was a Yamaha XS1100, and a couple 81 CB350’s. Then found my first Harley in a tobacco barn.

Beautiful bikes!!! Always like the upswept exhaust at a redlight...... with some douche on the phone or some goof trying to rattle his deck lid off lol.

Pop had a 78 I believe it was, A model. It had that torsion bar suspension and a set in sleeper.

Hey, if you havent try just nipping the outside ring with torch low flame. Then go up thru with air hammer in two spots. Once that garbage is out the inner ring is left. Warm it up red and let it fall apart without oxygen blast.

Just a idea. Eating all the sheet is the worse.

Tony has a good point here, esp if you have the freedom line, lubed for life driveline. The metal pinning noise is the needle bearing impacting the trunion on Ujoint. A lot of time caused by a frozen slip. Its loading the shaft in a front to rear motion. Seen it wipe out diffs and rear of trans. Drop them down and see it it slides by hand. Check under caps for marks in joint. Pretty cheap diagnostics at least.

I know you have some pictures somewhere of that, c'mon let's see em!:D

By "set in" do you mean the full size hole? I have heard that term tossed around before as well as "crawl thru" . Our 80 has the same hole as my 88 900B and I assume yours as well.

The crawl thrus I have seen were essentially a small boot in the rear window frame and a matching hole in a bunk.
I ain’t that big, but I’m too big to be crawling thru a hvac duct either.
