I too had heard the story about bodies entombed in the dam. A couple decades ago, I took a tour and this was brought up. The guide said that was totally urban legend. The concrete was poured in 5 ft. lifts in small trapezoidal shaped columns in order to facilitate cooling and curing, so someone could escape if necessary. He also mentioned the "body" being detrimental to the strength of the structure.

The reason for the small pours was that it had been calculated that if the dam was constructed of one continuous pour, it would take 125 years to dissipate the heat and result in stress cracking which would weaken the structure. I also heard that the heat given off by the curing of the total amount of concrete used would be sufficient to bake 500,000 loaves of bread per day for three years.

Never enough words to express the selflessness and willingness amongst the folks on here to help with whatever and wherever they can. If only the rest of the world were that way.

    VERY admirable @OLDSKOOLERnWV !!!

I got my first "speed warning" on Thursday. I was doing 70 in a 64 truck (I later found out it's not about the amount of speed over, but the time spent over the governer) with the jakes holding a downhill in SD on the I29. I'm just waiting for them to talk to me about it (I doubt they will though).

I'll be like... the speed limit is 80 there.
