    That's the thing...they average $80k a year with full benefits. Hourly pay no direct supervisor on site.

    Therein lies the biggest issue with unsupervised time based employees imo


    Good to have someone paid on performance to see what the consensus is.

    I have had the same experience and even had a DOT watch me use that system when changing a damaged strap with no comment.

    You know we had a similar discussion today.....

    Nice kid that we know called the kid....the local elevator here knows we will work but the manager knows I won't hall loads for them till he can get rid of the elevator owners son-in-law. I left cause one of us was going to the hospital and one was going to jail.....he's a little squirt..

    Anyway this kid is running circles for fifty a hour. Those were our loads... ...and they wanted us to do it....but they didn’t like the bid.

    So the kid chewed his axx for taking the loads and told him the rate to charge..... We won't haul them anyway....

    I'd heard a rumor but found out today China bought them out.

    The stupid public doesn't understand the mill I haul into is owned by the Chinese...... They are the largest pork producers in America......

    And they are expanding .......

    When I still worked for them as fleet manager I advocated for percentage of the load pay. They claimed they didn't want to have to share the rates with drivers. Couldn't trust them. Everytime we raised driver pay they became less efficient.

    I said if that was the case why not sell all the trucks and just keep the trailers and go to nothing but independent contractor trucks.

    Couldn't go that route either...had to have trucks, it's part of the brand... didn't matter if the trucks ever turned a profit or if they were just flat out bleeding cash. The profit was in the product sales and toll blending. Outside carriers like us cover 75% of all the loads now.

    So here I am today. Running circles around these guys and everyone involved is perfectly content the way it is.
