Well, I know I've made the right decision. Got a call this morning from the driver services manager, "confused" by the email I sent last night. Was unsure why, after sitting down with him on Monday and asking to go back out on flat deck highway in order to make more money (and explaining how I didn't make enough to put a down payment on a house because of all the favours I did last year) I would go and give notice two days later.
He was extremely condescending, trying to make me feel guilty for somehow throwing off "all his plans" to get my bulk position filled (going back to flat deck meant they would need to cover the Williston run, but he assured me on Monday that he had a plan and had someone ready to go, just needed to expedite things) and his tone suggested that the "deal we made" and me backing out was somehow disrespectful of me. What?
Well, and I didn't get time to tell him this because of cell reception cutting out, but he seemed to forget the deal WE made back in December 2017 when I asked him for a new truck and I quote "all the miles I could run", and he passed up several opportunities to get me into new equipment, and put drivers with LESS experience than me into new and new-ish trucks (this time last year he put a driver with 5 months experience that I trained in the classroom, WHO HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS HIS FAULT, into one of the brand new long hood flat tops HE convinced me to skip to wait for the long hood high tops that never showed up).
You would think a man in his position would do the professional thing and keep it professional without trying to make it personal, and without trying to make me feel bad for somehow "screwing" the company. You know what? That's not my ####ing problem.
I told him, I didn't know when this new opportunity would get back to me, I was ready to quit and drive the truck home empty after that ####show in Fargo on Friday and ended up still doing my job despite that and that I'm doing this for ME and MY family.
I tried calling back a few times in the next 20 minutes. He didn't answer so I gave up. #### him. Throughout I've remained entirely professional and as polite as possible, and he needs to realize that it's actually HIS fault I'm leaving. He sat on his ### when I went to him AT LEAST 4 separate occasions last year (about once every three months) to ask for new equipment, he didn't advocate for me with the owner when the owner decided who was getting the new gliders (the DS manager usually assigns trucks) nor did he ever follow up with me or give one ounce of feedback when I asked for a new truck.
I said I'd be willing to run Ontario, US or BC (our entire region) over 3000 miles a week with straights and B-trains if I could get back in 5-6 days, and always be willing to help out when necessary (originally in December and every subsequent time I asked). But what does he do? Nothing. Absolutely ####ing nothing and then tries in the end, feebly, to make it MY fault.
Well great, I think you just burned the bridge I was trying to keep together there buddy. So long as he is working there, I'll never go back and ask for a job. Ever. Even if I'm desperate and have run out of options, I'd rather drive a white ####ing Volvo for a Punjabi reefer company. And hey, they pay better too.
