Thank you sir. I'll check them out. Is there anything to matching the proper coax and coax length to an antenna? I need to replace the coax anyway.

I always run 18 feet, but you really only need enough to reach. Get some mini8 or RG8. Tramflex or Barjan are two decent brands.

The antenna is tuned by cutting the stinger down to the lowest swr you can achieve using a decent swr meter.
If I'm not mistaken, swr works on inverse property. If they are higher on channel 1 than on 40, the antenna is too short. Lower on 1 than 40 means its too long.

Just bottom it out and see where it is on the meter. Then raise it to the highest point where the allen screw still tightens and recheck. Trim off no more than an inch at a time til you get it under 1.5 to 1. The lower the better, and that antenna tunes really low easily. That whip is stiff so you will need a strong hacksaw or a decent cutting wheel.

Now we aint turning around to see that everything else is still a mess. But the last time I seen the top of this bench, well was when it was built. Maybe now is a good time to get the steel put on it.
