. The old home my great grandfather lived in around the mountain from us, was built over a cistern which still stands, looked like a brick igloo. The top of the cistern was just under a trap door in the kitchen floor. That’s where the water came from, never had any plumbing. And the Johnny was on the other side of the old storage building. I would carry the newspaper around the mountain to them... just over 1/4 mile or so, and my great grandfather would bring me back in his 31 or 32? Ford A pickup. Simpler times?
I do have a hand pump, as well as a windmill and a Red Jacket working barrel
, I would go backwards in a heartbeat lol.
