    There is an industrial sister engine to the 1693 called a D343. They remained popular on dredge pumps mainly long after the 1693 went to the way side. They were a completely different animal. Overhead cam with adjusters inside the lifters for valve setting. Worked kinda like setting up drum brakes on a vehicle. Rear accessory drive that had a neat whine to it. Lots of timing that gave it a smooth clatter. Rpm on em was crazy high
