It's funny you say that. I called both of the spring shops I use. They both said that's what they usually end up doing is welding them in.

I been looking online, found a internal thread chaser to fit but dam they are $400. I dont mind buying tools of any kind, but just for a 1 time use I'm probably gonna have to opt for welding mine unless I take the it all completely apart and go to a machine shop. Aggravating fo sho

Its hard to thread it far enough with the pin in to get the cap to stop from blowing out.

 

They welded bout a 1 inch bead across from one or the other. After coating silicone gasket goop on the bad threads to help seal it up.

Do you know the thread size and pitch? A bolt can be modified to repair threads like a bottoming tap.

Steve I was considering that idea, but it's such a large diameter I'd need around a 2+ inch bolt. I thought bout taking a new cap and making a thread chaser out of, but I dont think the threads are strong enough cause the cap is made out cast

I'm not sure what the threads or pitch are to be honest tho.

 

Be a pretty dang big bolt ! It's about 2 1/4 in across.

 

I'm thinkin it's tapered threads like pipe plug.

 

@snowman_w900 a new cap may work at least you will have fresh threads on the cap.
