You know.. I was brought up to dress appropriately for work. If work included dangerous things that might hurt, it was a good idea to wear stuff that might protect from that. Reefers are all I haul. However, if I was to randomly drop the trailer and follow you to one of those places, I would not be refused due to clothes or safety. There's even a like new brain bucket stowed in the bunk somewhere, believe it or don't.

That said, I struggle with the young men (son and cousin) that work for me. They aren't doing anything dangerous or that would get them banned from anywhere, so there's at least that or I'd fire them and have a truck sale. I do set an example of how to look and act the part of a professional, and throw it in their face when the occasion arises. When you show up ready for work and look like it, you get instant respect. I do that. Every place I go into, they think I'm a warehouse manager not a driver. It makes my job so much easier.

On the other hand, you show up with a bad attitude, looking like your ready for a slumber party, you have to start from below zero respect at every stop and overcome the hassle you brought on yourself. If you ever wondered why the drivers who seem to dress for comfort always seem unhappy anyway, there's the reason.

That sounds like the old ‘apple not falling too far from the tree’ scenario.

Was in a truck stop restaurant, had a young waitress, 16 who made a comment of how she’s supporting 5 people off her income. This is amazing, I knew a girl, who was the eldest of 7 that did this while working at the TA restaurant in Laredo. I admire kids who do that, and if I can slide them some bills I will. But this particular 16 yr old girl was different.

    Who are these 5 people?

“My mom, my brother (24), my boyfriend (19), one of his children (he has 3 from 3 different girls) and me.”

Brain was starting to hurt at this point.

Mom can’t keep a job, brother and boyfriend don’t work. All 3 high school dropouts. Where’s dad?

    “He lives in Tennessee.”

Lemme guess....remarried, nice job, nice house, doing alright for himself.

    “Yes.”

Smartest thing you could do in life is go live with your dad. At least he figured out what the heck he was doing wrong.

“Well, I would, but my boyfriend and I are talking about starting a family...”

Brain is screaming, “Terminate this conversation, Six!”

A young black couple with a kid are looking at me in alarm. They’ve heard the conversation.

    “What’s wrong?”

Are you serious????? You want to have a baby by a guy that doesn’t work and has 3 kids from 3 other women? Do you know that the odds of you two not being together in two years is pretty high?

    “Well, he makes pretty babies...”

The black couple’s mouths drop. I’m done. Nothing else to say.

XPO delivered a refrigerator to my house a week ago. All 3 sloppy. One had on sweats and flip flops sweats below his but showing 6” of underwater. Other one same. Guy in charge seemed decent. They didn’t remove any tape or plastic, didn’t level it or back it into its place. Told me 48 hours before I could add food. XPO and Lowe’s called I gave them a bad report. I told them if they came back out and did things right I wouldn’t but they never did and they never called back. Some are so slack today

Yes Sir I fully agree. I guess many feel that since one place accepts and allows a vacation style dress code that all places should. I have close to 150 Tee shirts, mostly Harley shirts as well as truck and tractor shirts, nice stuff too. But I only wear the shirts with our company name on them when I’m working. Just my preference. I see some dandy’s in these steel plants lol, look like they walked out of the poor house.
