Ok rant time. In case anyone wants to know Buckeye Western Star in Plain City is a freaken joke. I knew it but it’s been confirmed. My truck has had a persistent intake valve actuator problem which causes it to derate. We changed everything, actuators, harness, everything. We decided the ECM is the culprit. Ohio Cat was at least two weeks out, Fyda Freightliner wouldn’t touch it so we called Buckeye. They said they could get it in in two days, our equipment manager said go ahead and schedule it, they said no... Two days AFTER you park it on our lot. WTF? So we dropped it off last Thursday and they pulled it in Tuesday. They called Wednesday and said number 5 was a dead hole, WHAT? Yep, I said no way it had a dead hole and asked if they thought it was an injector? They said no the injector was flowing fuel, so I said please explain how it can be a dead hole and still flow fuel. They said we’ll call you back. Now they’ve deduced it’s an ECM and they don’t have one to test their theory so they’re getting a new one. They warned us that as soon as they open it we own it. Sure buddy! What a joke. Rant over.

I thought you could back it off just enough to not set a code and run it without a derate. It sucks that most shops don't know their own product.

Honestly? I’m not sure, if it wasn’t going down the road we’d eliminate this IVA problem.

What year? Same IVA all the time? Went down this road with an ‘05. Changed multiple IVAs finally when one only lasted 2 miles we changed the harness and that solved the problem.

I remember the service Mgr telling me the truck will derate if the oil psi to the IVAs falls below a psi specified in the ECM parameters. He was going to lower the parameter so the psi would never fall below it. Did that Make sense?
