Anymore, I like to replace expansion valve if the system is opened. One piece of dirt/crud is all it takes. Seems not all vales are built equal. Always a new dryer.

My problem is usually the screen getting plugged up...orfice tube or whatever it's called. Usually we catch the compressor before it grenades so we don't change dryers very often.

What vintage, or has newer stuff went back to it? If your running R134a with a desiccant dryer on Hi psi side. Normally you can drop inside temp 5 degrees just replacing it. Its cheap insurance. and like a air dryer can only hold so much moisture.snowman_w900, PoleCrusher, cke and 10 others Thank this. -
