I think that it is to mix some cooler outside air with the super hot stuff coming out of the exhaust during a regen.

I got no clue. That area will be covered by the tarp box. Not sure of the exact spacing between the box and the exhaust... can't imagine it being enough for whatever air gets under there to cool it off... I couldn't tell ya.

    Paccar engineers...

Hopefully tomorrow and/or Tuesday. I'm sure their gonna wanna keep me in the 660 and repair it. I'm 95% sure it needs a proper Cummins rebuild though.

    Oh....

I was thinking it was some sort of half baked idea to dilute soot or something. After all those years of coal rolling trucks we certainly don’t want pure exhaust emanating from the tailpipe at all.

The government has certainly mandated stupider things.

1951 ford, Oxbow and Shock Therapy Thank this.

All that needs to be said.

The things our mechanic has told me about their level of "intelligence" is mind-blowing. Like if you need to service the transmission on an auto-shift in a 579, they cut a hole in the carpet, and instead of replacing it, you get your choice of black plastic or chrome plastic cover.
