Well... I was thinking about the controversy brought into this forum about @jamespmack’s comment about Chinatown. Is China helpful or harmful? Is he ruining the industry by providing meat in the seat to megas? I don’t think so. So, I have to agree with JPM.
So, what exactly “ruined” the industry? Start at the top. The Department of Transportation, the truck manufacturers, and the ATA. I’ve often wondered where all of these fat antisocial losers seem to think that being a fat antisocial loser means that they’d make the ideal driver. It HAS to be in the marketing. So, I look into the little truckstop ad books, and I see a smiling hefty guy standing tall, clean cut, looking confident, standing in front of some megafleet cookie cutter truck. And the ad says something about being respected. “We treat YOU like family! Be a person, not a number!”
Is THAT the Dream?
They are telling you that your nobody arse can be somebody. You can gain self esteem and personal satisfaction by driving a POS truck! I don’t think that no mega pulls this off better than Prime (heck, even the name says they’re one of the best)...they buy a bunch of POS trucks for $100k, put vinyl graphics on them and turn around and convince losers to pay $250k for them. Well, at least you got to keep the free hat.
“So Six, why do you not think that meat in the seat for the megas isn’t a bad thing?
1. They’re working. Nuff said.
“But you can go to McDonalds...”
Their extra large loser fat arses couldn’t work at McDonalds. And regardless of how many fat, antisocial losers come into the industry, good solid drivers will ALWAYS rise to the top.
When they do the autonomous trucks, that will remove all the dead weight from the industry. The people remaining will once again be “Skilled Labor”, and the money will triple. Why so? Their system needs lots and lots of fine tuning to be safe. The more finely tuned something is, the more that can go wrong. You problem solving types are going to be extremely busy.
Have you ever been to WalMart, walking around and someone almost runs into you with their buggy? You saw them, they didn’t see you and almost hit you. Well, people drivethe same way they walk. Everyone you go into a store, you see that the vast majority of people are Braindead. They are unaware of anything around them. And they have driving privileges. Scary, isn’t it? Some actually have CDLs. How did they get this far in life being Braindead? Well, in times past, Braindeads were the minority, but now, they are the majority.
You have this “awareness” thing. You walk in a room, a building, whatever...you are aware. You walk outside to the truck, you are aware. You start driving, you are aware. It’s always on. Someone pulls out the parking lot after you. Noted. Someone is tailgating. You are aware. Another is riding the right side of your trailer. “WTF is this?” Tailgater, goes left pedal to the metal. “Here we go...”
“Ummm...Six, you’re off your meds again.”
Am I? Well, long story short, good drivers will be good drivers regardless of where they start. But have you ever wondered why Chinatown does what he does?
“No, I haven’t Six, I don’t give a rat’s arse.”
Well, I didn’t until you guys brought it up in here. And in typical problem solver fashion, I gave it some thought. And I realized that JPM was correct. Thanks a lot, guys. -
Happy Birthday. It doesn't slow down it just gets faster, be sure to take in every day and moment!
