What're you planting? I remember, as a kid I dragged an attachment like the little one on the rear around a field...I was "rolling oats", probably behind a JD50...
I love the "blueing" on the stack of that 6788... -
I got an inspection once right after I had started a new book, so naturally I was still carrying the old one (didn't we used to have to go back 30 days but now only 7?) Anyways, I ask the guy if he wants my other book too. His eyes kind of light up, he says, "oh you have more than 1?" I answer, "I have several", he says, "REALLY?"
After I explained why, we both kind of chuckled, but I think he might have been just a little bit disappointed... -
Was leased to Daily Express in the mid 70's,hauled lots of new construction, farm, and assorted barnyard jewelry out of the Quad Cities,Il,Ia. area then, booming times. Hauled one of the very first of those articulated IH protoypes built, was probably a 3588,was around 1976,1977 iirc. Loaded it at the huge Farmall plant in Rock Island, going to a field demo show in Frederick,Md. Also had a new 1086 on going to a dealer in Moorefield,W.Va. Big Farmall loads paid well then. Always enjoyed loading there, when you left you had to go one-way around the whole circumference of the plant, big place. During nice weather, they always had all the big doors and windows open, you could stop and watch the big red tractor assembly line in action.
Had a 40' step deck back then,we were still fighting the 55' overall length crap east of the Mississippi. Loaded the front wheels of the 3588 up on the top step,1086 on the back.Left the plant, first bridge I came to,hit the exhaust pipe of the 3588,flipped it neatly right thru the center of the fancy curved winshield. Needless to say, very unhappy dealer in Frederick when I showed up,got a deserved arse chewing for not paying attention to details, measured cab height, but ignored pipe. Live and learn. -
