This deal sorta fell in my lap. I have never done any hauling for them. They say that my name kept appearing in conversations about where to get good help. As a young man being known as a top notch hand that can get it done without the fan fare was my biggest want. I avoided these folks for months because I honestly do not think I am capable of the job. My truck is old, only getting older. I'm not old but have noticed I do not recover like I once did.

Maybe a mid life crisis is what it is idk but I know for sure it was easy 20 years ago in a brand r new Pete. Course old age, treachery and implied wisdom has a part to play in this deal here. I be honest its gonna be a nail biter and I'm excited to see how its gonna turn out.

I don't get over to Idaho City much anymore and hadn't heard of those fellas, but we sure are experiencing more traffic, building etc. Folks moving in from California has been an issue for as long as I have been here, but what are you going to do? Locals just ask that they don't move here from somewhere else, complain about where they came from, and then try to change things here to make them like where they came from.

Many of my clients are extremely wealthy people that have purchased ranches here, and then put money into restoring the creeks and rivers. Most of them still run cattle, but try to fence out the bulk of the riparian areas. It would be pretty two faced of me to complain about them while cashing their checks.

We have an incredible amount of public land between State lands, the Forest Service, and the BLM. When they try to block access to public lands is where the battles are beginning......and I guarantee that they will be huge battles, because most folks raised around here have been going to the same Forest Service or BLM area for generations, and won't give up easily. The outcry in recent years after the Forest Service began making more areas roadless and closing many trails to ATVs in Eastern Idaho in order to extend Grizzly Bear habitat was significant, and since then there seems to be a better balance between the Feds and residents.

One thing is for sure; the Intermountain West will never be like it was 50 years ago again. Just too many people.

I don't disagree with you at all, but I'm sure that you have also seen the other side of that story. The person who is repeatedly overlooked, disregarded, pushed aside, made to wait until a " favored son " or otherwise shuffled to the back of the pack. ( thought I was gonna say Class didnya ? ) ...... I don't have a answer either, just wanted to throw a reminder in there that it cuts both ways.

Similar to the dilemma about public vs private land and the ownership Rights.
Maybe the focus should be on the ownership Responsibilities instead of the Rights ?
I don't know but I do know that every individual struggles with greed and where they should draw the line on how much " stuff " ( property, possessions, whatever ) they should be in control of.

Many, many people lose their struggle and become consumed by greed, of one sort or another.
While I was reading that link about the land ownership I was reminded of an article I read about 15 year's ago about Ted Turner and the massive amounts of land he bought out West. Sure enough, the link mentioned him later on.

    Sorry about the rambling.

    Id agree with ya.

I think every generation has its group of lazy dimwits that don’t want to work and want to take the cheap route on everything... just look at our government. It’s not millennials ducking that up. Not yet anyway.

    Good post @Oxbow

That was the big complaint when I lived in southern Delaware. The sleepy beach communities started exploding in the early 90's. People from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Baltimore, DC, started moving in, buying up everything because it was this quiet beach community, "Slower Delaware" was the slogan for Sussex county, the southern most county of the 3 in Delaware. The next thing you know there are Outlets going up restaurants, condo's, new homes, toll roads, 4 lane highways, everything that comes with people is there now. No more sleepy beach community and it surely will never be like it was when I first moved there in '81.
