When they are flying around like that they are called "locals" or "flyin around the flagpole". New pilots are either getting training or older ones are just staying current on what they've already been trained on. They do touch and go's, where they land and roll out and take off again, and they practice missed approaches where they come in for a landing but don't touch down and go around again. They go up and practice hooking up to a KC-135 Tanker to keep current on that too, they'll hook up and unhook several times for practice and this provides training for the 135 crews also.

All the aircraft in all the services fly training missions everyday and night all over the world just to stay current, plus there are military aircraft in the air 24 hrs a day doing different things all over the world keeping everyone safe.

They do touch-n-goes at Burns Flat quite a bit too. Pretty cool watching it.

Yes sir, 27 yrs. 17 yrs out in your neck of the woods at Dover and I lived in Milton.

I'm sure you've seen these guys around @MACK E-6 . I drove for them from '95-'02 part time mostly, they were out of Milton also.

Regarding the "yellow flaps" in the pic posted it is hard to tell but, the yellow looks to me like the gap between the trailing edge of the wing and the flap in the trail position. On swept wing airplanes the flaps are known as Fowler flaps, they move back and have a gap sorta like a mini bi-wing. If the flaps were indeed yellow, they could be replacements. Long ago I used to fly for a company that did completions on airplanes. We would get "green" airplanes the green could be green or yellowish primer.
