GM used the 8V-71 in their LAV's well into the 1990's until we switched to the Cat for a little more power and range. Cat 3126 I think. The driver sat literally inches away from that thing separated only by a 1/8" steel bulkhead and some insulation.Oxbow, peterbilt_2005, 1951 ford and 14 others Thank this.

Yes the inline 6 was noted as the 238, many old timers referred to them as that. Just as the 318 was a 8V-71 rated @318 hp depending on injectors and no Turbo.
