Hey everyone, i got a question for y’all; would you still recommend trucking as a career for a young guy 20 years old. Now I know that the opinion of my generation is not very strong here and i understand why, so to sway your opinions here is something about me:
i am 20, born in 98 so that makes me a millennial right? It doesn’t matter because it depends on the person, or man, and not the generation. I was raised similarly to many on here in comparison- growing up I was right there with my dad whenever he had to do anything around the house being a tool runner. I was watching and learning, and learning how to effectively express frustrations in multiple languages if you catch my drift. The older i got, the more I got to do hands on. I am not sure how many people my age, or on a smaller scale in my school, know how to plumb a water boiler or do electrical work or use a drain snake, along with many other skills. And the looks I get when I say me and my dad work on my car- even my boss said “what a waste of money, you work just pay them,” well it isn’t the same. I enjoy the pride and sense of accomplishment when I do something and I take pride having grease stained hands and finding grease in places there shouldn’t be.
Anyway, it’s been about 10 years since my dad sold out and hung up his keys- he was an owner operator from 90-’08 and prior he was a diesel mechanic. My most run in with a truck was stooping by at an Arrow and stowing away in a studio 660 for a bit and I felt right at home in that truck. Even though I am disconnected, i am updated via this forum and on Facebook- specifically Rate Per mile Masters which shows a lot about current rates. i know the industry went downhill and is questionable at best, but it is something I want to do and can see myself doing.
Currently, I am in pharmacy school with an end result of becoming a pharmacist. And i work for CVS- which is the Mega Company equivalent for perspective. I work Fridays to Sundays ( a 9 (almost open to close), 8 (open to close), and a 6 (open to close)), and go to school Mon-Thurs. And I outperform my peers that do not even work in classes like anatomy and organic chemistry. Even at work, i’ve been there for a year and 8 months, I have impressed my boss and those I work with. During my interview, my boss was impressed with how much I knew regarding a career in pharmacy and from the get-go I have surprised and delivered. When i was only a few weeks old working, a pharmacist who was covering told my boss how shocked she was to find out i’ve been working for such a short time and keeping up with more experienced people. Long and the short- I am good at this despite how much I hate it. but I still bring my A game every shift and perform.
So what do i do? I know the smart answer is to stay in school and get my degree and follow pharmacy. It has better job security, a better salary (however next to no salary growth), and the work schedule is better in some cases ( a 12 hour a day store- you maybe work a total of 12/16 days a month; or my boss who works 4 days one week and 5 the next with our store hours). But all I want to do is hit the road as an o/o and prove I can do it and live out a dream. It won’t be easy but I want to run decks and move into the oversized world one day. What is your experienced straightforward advice. No feelings will be harmed.
Sorry for the length and to bother.Shock Therapy, Crusader66, 1951 ford and 3 others Thank this. -
What the hell is a “delta P sensor”?

Sounds like something that will derate the engine if someone breaks wind the wrong way in Walkabout Creek Australia.Shock Therapy, 1951 ford, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -

It was a windy one today and roads were crappy in spots throughout ND. A friend sent me this pic earlier. I don't know any more details but I'm guessing with the roads being icy and a strong side wind it blew him off the road.
cke, Shock Therapy, ShooterK2 and 15 others Thank this. -
It’s the Delta Pressure Sensor in the Venturi tube. It measure the changes in EGR pressure. In layman’s terms, it keeps track of how many manatee and caribou I am killing.Shock Therapy, ShooterK2, wore out and 4 others Thank this.

Looks good. If you want to be blown away, come to the Memphis in May BBQ world championships and get some bbq from the contestants. I worked for a company that setup tents for the contestants and some of the most incredible food I have ever tasted didn’t even make the Top 10.Shock Therapy, wore out, Ruthless and 5 others Thank this.
