Well. Played in the mud. Got her back to Birmingham. I’ve driven just about every truck we have in the fleet spec-wise... minus our top drivers Pete and the handful of Volvo’s we have floating around....oh, and that weird Western Star we got. Eh, think I’m gonna put my name on the Freightliner list if I’m forced to drive an automated.
I’m off till Monday... I’m finding a steakhouse. A nice rare steak and a cold one is calling my name.

GM did the C Clip rears too. Clip broke, axles would slide out the diff housing.peterbilt_2005, OLDSKOOLERnWV, stwik and 7 others Thank this.

I haven’t put the c clip elminator kit in my pickup yet. If I upgrade, it will be to a 14 bolt and be done. This truck is a street queen mostly.

Full floater. That way, if breaks, you can still drive it home.OLDSKOOLERnWV, johndeere4020, Oxbow and 5 others Thank this.

You have to admit, 12 bolt car or truck, those axles took a lot of abuse from the factory. All the big block manual tranny cars or trucks and they performed great.
Heck a BBC corvette 435 hp 427 was hooking to a glorified Dana 44 rear axle.
The wee 8.2" or 8.5" 10 bolts in Camaros are kind of embarrassing but the 12 bolts got 'er done. I realize off road in 4x4s yes step it up for axles, no doubt.OLDSKOOLERnWV, SAR, Shock Therapy and 2 others Thank this. -
Alright, that does it. You’re grounded. Now go lay on the couch and watch Duck Dynasty reruns till things calm down.
Seriously man, take it easy. You’re too valuable a hand around here for us to let you mess around with this. Get some rest and don’t be pushin it for a while.OLDSKOOLERnWV, johndeere4020, Oxbow and 11 others Thank this. -
What do you like about the Freightliner?
I always thought the interiors of those was kind of cheesy/cheap but I haven't been in a truck for 10 years so I'm just a little out of touch.OLDSKOOLERnWV, johndeere4020, Oxbow and 5 others Thank this. -
Now you're ticking me off! Early to mid 80s, GM pulled the 12's, 350th and 400s, NP205s...and shoved those 10 bolts,700Rs and 305HOs into everything. Pure junk.OLDSKOOLERnWV, johndeere4020, SAR and 5 others Thank this.

Easy!!!! @TripleSix
I had a 305 with mild lunati cam, edelbrock intake and 4 bbl, headers and a 700r4. Yep, I wasted money on that build. It was a 79 Elcamino I had painted black cherry pearl metallic, tinted windows, and weld draglites all the way around, stuffed a 275/60r15 underneath the rear. It was a head turner, albeit a gutless head turner. People were always trying to buy it from me.Crusader66, SAR, 1951 ford and 2 others Thank this. -
Whoa whoa whoa, sir. I should've clarified era's, but I thought I did when I said 12 bolts. '65-75? Roughly? Those 12 bolts got 'er done, car or truck.
The 80's were the start of the downward spiral.
Buddy of mine has a '70 Monte Carlo with an L88 and a '69 Chevelle with a 427 aluminum heads intake mild cam, both 12 bolts. I personally had a '68 Chevy C10 small block muncie m21 12 bolt 4.11 cogs with a mini spool that did just fine. Uncle has a '68 Z28 m22 small block 12 bolt rear that pulls 11 second quarter miles all day longCrusader66, SAR, wore out and 4 others Thank this.
