Drizzly and windy here. Still kind of sticky but they're promising lower stickyness by this afternoon.

 

I had a similar situation with my house soon after moving in. Lots of good advice on servicing the HVAC so I won't beat that dead horse. But here's a couple ideas that might help.

Get into your attic or crawlspace and inspect all the ductwork. Look for any torn flex duct, also check when the ducts connect to the registers in the house. Even one small 4" duct that comes loose at the opposite end of the house can keep the system from keeping up on a hot day. Basically look for anywhere conditioned air is being pumped into a space it ain't supposed to go, then fix that.

Likewise, check your dryer vent ductwork. Had to deal with that once. Having your dryer pumping hot, humid air inside the house isn't helpful.

Consider putting in a power ventilator for your attic. This was one of the first things I did in my house and it made a huge difference. There's a couple different options that depend on how your roof is constructed. Mine has a couple gable vents. Heat rises and escapes through those, replaced by cooler outside air coming thru the soffit vents. I mounted a ventilator behind one of the gable vents, blowing out. The one I got came with a thermostat that also has a humidity switch. It's adjusted to come on at around 120ºF and/or 95% humidity. Keeping the attic cooler reduces the load on the HVAC. The humidity switch will reduce the possibility of mold forming during the winter.

I've done a bunch more to improve HVAC performance in the past 20 yrs here, but those are the relatively easy ones that don't usually cost a lot of money to do and can make a big improvement.
