So I didn’t know S about bikes and still don’t know much , it’s a long story that started with a Yamahammer XS 650 that was trashed — took it down and built it back up — took 2 years — my ride for 4 years — best thing I ever did. Graduated up to various Jap bikes, but never had a big’n. That’s about to change.

And then we have the Pup — told him to start out small and work his way up, but WTF do I know — hope he lives through it if he pulls the trigger — that’s a lot of bike.

The Men in here may laugh but the Forty Eight, both Irons, and the majority of the Softails... all more than enough bike for me...

Granted I don’t do the long rides Six and Mike probably do...

I like the Bobber Triumph makes too.

Skip to the 9:00 minute of this video. This guy is the friend of a friend. I took some of his ideas for my build.
Our mutual friend was the one that machined the swingarm, new axles and spacers for both our bikes. And I had my rear wheel widened out an extra 2.5 inches to fit a 300 Avon on the rear. Ridden this bike in everything from 120 degrees to 9 degrees. I do not like riding in the rain, but I have...you’re going to get caught in bad weather on a long ride.

Went on a group ride with 5 of us years ago. The small guy was on a 450 Honda and kept up just fine. The rest of us had a Yamaha 650 turbo ( factory. Lots and lots of turbo lag. ) Big HD. Kawasaki GPZ 900 ( year before they named it Ninja, but same bike. ) and my Honda V-4 V65 Sabre 120 hp. We all expected that 450 to struggle to keep up but he was right there that whole time. Granted, he was tail end of the line but I don't really know for a fact how hard he was riding. I stayed in front the whole way ...... until the downhill twisty's. The GPZ 1000 embarrassed the rest of us ( especially me ) and was totally out of sight. The power to weight ratio can be in favor of a lighter guy. The bike doesn't have to lug around as much pilot weight. You can keep up just fine on a smaller machine and the awesome 600's of the last several decades will let you have the advantage over the rest of us fat boys.

Don’t think anyone one would laugh — if they do, F’m — I rode a Virago from Coalstrip MT to Sturgis in 81 when it was still wild and had an epic time. Not a matter of what you ride — it’s a matter that you do ride. Just my opinion of course.
