Well this got long LOL. If you don't care about 2 wheel adventures, scroll on.
All this recent 2-wheel chatter was kind of coincidental for me, on a couple of levels. Yesterday one of the more local to me meetups of a group (H-D touring centric, but not exclusive in any way) I've run with for coming up on 20 yrs or so, was doing a thing in Helen GA. For those not familiar, Helen is an alpine themed little town in NE Georgia. Much like Solvang CA if you've ever been there. A faux German Alps hamlet. Cool little place to spend a weekend if you ever were into that sort of thing.
I thought I wasn't going to make it. I had inadvertently scheduled a tree guy to do some work. Since he missed our first appt, I fully expected him to show up late and take all day. But no. Dude rolled in with a crew before I could get my first cuppa coffee and got-r-done in 2 hrs.
So there's enough day left to do this ride to Helen. My wife (regrettably) decided she wanted to stay home, so 2 wheels it is. She doesn't ride any more due to health reasons, but would have enjoyed visiting with old friends even if we took the car. Anyway.. her loss LOL. I have run the gamut with murdercycles, and find myself with two antiques at the moment that suit what I do these days. So I have a decision to make. Do I take the easy path and roll out the Z-1? or do it the hard way on the panhead hardtail? You probably already guessed what I would take to such a gathering.
More on this in a moment, but there's two things really old bikes (and cars for that matter) don't do well: High speed (that means faster than 50-60 mph) and gridlock. The Z-1 is only 45 yrs old and totally capable of interstate travel. I chose instead to suck it up buttercup and take the 70 yr old hardtail.
It was worth every ache and pain this morning, to do that ride yesterday. @TripleSix your aspirin story is absolutely apt, although this morning hasn't risen to the level of that chain of events you described so I've managed without LOL. Got to catch up with folks I hadn't seen in a while and meet a few new ones.
For supper, most of us walked to the Badensee Restaraunt for some German fine dining. By the time we were seated, I was hungry enough to be surly, so regretfully did not take any photos of the plate before throaking it down. I had the Holzfällersteak with a side of Spätzle. I knew when my meal came out on a wooden plank, and everyone else's was served on regular china, it would be special. Two slices of toast, with a thick slice of pork tenderloin on each, stacked with sautéed mushrooms, and what else would you garnish a yummy meal featuring pork with? Two pieces of bacon. I think it lasted about 5 minutes. Someone did have the sense to get a group shot before the food was demolished.
That's me in the orange ball cap in the back left. These folks came from all over. Probably missing a few, but GA, AL, FL, TN, NC, VA, NY, WI, OH, and one foreigner from Toronto. It was a good time and totally worth the sore backside and numb fingers this morning.
Lastly, I had planned to get on the road before sundown, at least get out of the mountains before dark. But of course that didn't happen. Let's just say there's been amazing advancements in lighting and safety since 1949.
And besides, when is one ever done? Just when you get things that certain way, you see something else that would take it even closer. Or, maybe your riding habits change and it's time to reinvent the wheel and morph it into what you're doing now instead of last year.
Personally, I think my long distance rides are done. At least for now. I've done a certified Iron Butt 2k from Dawsonville GA to Needles CA in 48 hrs. My wife and I did an epic week+ riding out to Phoenix to visit my grandma and everyone else we know along the way. I just really haven't got the urge to get on a bike for a week non-stop these days. But you never know LOL. Now and then I see some not quite new, low mile big twins on the want ads going for fair money. Probably be just right if I changed my mind.Last edited: Jul 28, 2019

That brown stuff, poured over whatever that is, made me a little queasy just looking at it.
I would probably have a heart attack if I ate that. -
Gonna pull a @shogun and say that it was consumed in such a violent and quick manner that no doneness photo was ever taken.
I made the rule, doesn’t mean I gotta follow it, it’s like being a congressmen.
