Scary stuff. Thank God he had people there that knew what to do and jumped right in instead of standing around videoing it. Glad to hear it had a good ending, sounds like it could have been potentially a lot worse.

 

You just reminded me of another ugly car I had, although not as ugly as that Ranchero, a 77 Corolla. I was working in a body shop for peanuts and blew a head gasket on my old Camaro. Was fixin to be blessed with my second kid. Sold the Camaro at the Clinton auction and bought this old Corolla from the salvage yard. They had been using it to haul small parts from down back. It had been hit in the drivers quarter panel, didn’t have a quarter window, and was crushed so bad one wouldn’t fit anyway. Cracked exhaust manifold and was LOUD. I paid $175 for it, cut a piece of cardboard and duct taped it over the window, and drove it home.

I later pulled the dent and found a window for it. Never did find a manifold.

Brought my wife and daughter home from the hospital in that little car. We drove it over a year and it never missed a lick. This was in 1994. Ended up selling it to my sis and she drove it for a long time before she finally sold it. As far as I know it was still doing just fine.

 

What I remember most about that car.. remember before smart phones and the interwebs? Tire company ads in the newspaper always had a sale for some tire or another for $29 (and up). The $29 tire was a 155-12. My Corolla took that size.

 

Dang it man....need pics of the aftermath. I saw this a while back and thought of you, I’ve never seen an articulated Oliver before. I bet it would be the only one at the show

 

I usually take the back roads to work, jumped on the interstate tonight instead then this came on. Good thing there weren't any po-lease around or I'd a been in big trouble, lol.

Oh geez, Pops had a 67 cabover Pete with a 335 Cummins and it left such a bad taste in his mouth, to him "Peterbilt ain't worth the powder it would take to blow it up". He only had kenworth and freightliners after that.

 

You musta been rollin in high cotton to buy new tires. Lol.

My requirements for tires back then is that they were round (for the most part) and held air (at least for a while).

 

A rarely seen event caught right before your very eyes... @wore out in the wild!
