@wore out Its like chasing something that ain't there. I watch my father chase his father's ghost his whole life wanting to be better. Well I will admit, I'm competing with a guy that ain't here, from a time that has passed. Told me once, "Son your 10 times the mechanic I every tried to be, you sure as hell can drive anything and have been since 13 years old. But there is more to owning and driving than that. Get your own ride and we will see what your made of." I remember all them old times that thought he was a young kid back then like it was yesterday.

Still very good advice. Get you some rest you earned it for sure

Sometimes coming in it hits me harder than others since I moved my stuff to Dads place. I don't really wonder so much what could a been as I just flat out miss the men themselves. What I'd give to sit and have a Schlitz with them around that tire pile.
That's my deep thoughts for the day lol -
My father took me to work with him a couple times when I was a kid, once to do his regular job which was install electrical signs, and another to use his crane truck to lift a big tree stump out of a co-worker’s back yard. Those were the moments of my life.
The only thing that could compare would be for him to ride with me in my truck today. -
Hey I'm not meaning to be a Debbie Downer but I just have to ask if I'm the only one who had a Dad who consistently went out of his way to deny me access to the exposure of engines, motorcycles and that sort of thing ?
I'm really glad that so many of you value your fathers and uncles so much, I really am, but I simply cannot feel like that myself. I wish I could. I certainly held my Dad in the highest esteem when I was a kid and wanted nothing more than to make him happy but I honestly had that desire beaten and crushed out of me.
It's not that I dislike him. I don't.
I did end up making him proud, at least twice, but both times were done by accident. Nothing I ever did on purpose to please him accomplished him being satisfied. And not just me, the same exact thing can be said about both of my siblings.
Have a good day gentlemen. -
If I may ask, what did you father do for a living?1951 ford, Crusader66, Feedman and 10 others Thank this.

Drank.
Oh sorry. It only seemed like it.
The paychecks came from Uncle Sammy because he was a Quality Assurance Inspector for various things that Uncle Sammy was purchasing.
All kinds of stuff from cast aluminum pieces ( napalm bomb cases and anti-personnel bombs during the Vietnam War ) to crackers and mayonnaise, stretchers to carry around in an ambulance. Some things for NASA later. I have zero idea what though. -
He'd have been a rich, rich man if drinking paid. I guess that has to qualify as a hobby ?

My dad was a chickenshat. I had to learn everything important from Uncle Joe. I'm sure glad he was there.
