I loved the smell at the Mill from bean meal. Have you ever taken a hand full and ate it? Ain't terrible in small doses.
Useless fact of the day. Local place that makes meal only shuts it down twice a year. to get it back running right takes about 4 hours and they have to dump the first hundred ton .
Where is everyone #5

I had a C model Cat do something similar a few years ago. One of the bushings in the oil pump worked its way out far enough to get ripped out by the drive gear. When that happened oil leaked around the shaft, and it lost oil pressure all at once like yours.Nostalgic, blairandgretchen, exhausted379 and 22 others Thank this.

Couldn't find a Walmart in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Or more precisely 50 miles off the coast of Iran. We were out of several things. I had the ONLY Dr Pepper on the entire ship for a couple months. The reason why I had a six-pack was because I was running the soda mess ( that's what the name was for different shops that had enough spare room to buy some extra soda and resell it to raise money for a shop party once we finally made port. ) We knew that we weren't going to be receiving any more milk, eggs, chips or soda for a unspecified length of time so they replenished us with everything we could fit into any spare nooks and crannies. I hoarded that six-pack for like two months until I knew positively for a FACT that we were FINALLY leaving the Indian Ocean. I knew because the Midway came up next to us and relieved us of duty. We HAD to leave because we were scheduled to go to Bremerton WA for an overhaul in drydock. That's scheduled years in advance and must be adhered to. Those ships have to have the preventive maintenance done, especially when they are already 26 years old. We even broke a law to get there on time. Technically a ship must be in it's homeport for 30 days before it can officially change homeports. We were back in San Diego for about 28 days. We tried heading to a port three times but were turned around every time. We barely, barely got to dip south far enough to cross the equator so we could become shellbacks. No joke, the guys on nightshift told me that the ship lurched at midnight and they looked at the plat ( closed circuit onboard TV that had the heading and speed on it ) and we turned sharp and hard to get back north to go through the Straits of Malacca on the way to the Philippines. We were supposed to go to Perth, New Zealand and ( Sydney ? ) for some centennial celebration but never got to go. Only place we saw was the Philippines. Third day out of San Diego the inept CO ran us into the tanker ship that we were refueling from. Couldn't use one of the elevators to move the planes between the hangar deck and the flight deck until they repaired us in the Philippines. Many millions to repair. 43 days to Pearl Harbor because of the Sandinista's in Central America. 3 days in Pearl. Steam to the Philippines, stay for like 5 days ? Steam to the Indian Ocean where Ronnie and the Assatolah Khomeini were not exactly seeing eye to eye on whether our country's were friends or not.
Not done yet. Gotta go. To be continued.Last edited: Aug 11, 2019
