I got to tell this story....it's kind of long but it goes to show how bad our medical system is in this country. My wife had lunch with her uncle and his wife, they retired at 55 and travel around in a big coach seeing the country. They were down in the southwest and she was having some back issues but hated to have to leave to go see her regular doctor. Another couple told them they need to go into Mexico, forgot the city, and have it checked out. They were VERY skeptical but decided to try it. They said it was the nicest, most up-to-date hospital they had ever seen. They checked in, a concierge was provided and away they went to see the doctor, no appointment, no referral, just went right in to see the spine and back specialist. After the consultation she had an MRI done and said they even have wireless headphones playing calming music for you to wear so you don't hear all of the workings of the machine. They were blown away how modern and nice this place was. Anyway, within an hour the MRI was read and they had the results, no waiting. The cost of the MRI? $147! That's one hundred, forty seven dollars. While they were there she decided to have blood work done to see if she carried the marker for a rare form of arthritis that her sister has. She said her sister spent over $3500 for lab work here in the states before being correctly diagnosed.....they spent less than $50 and had results same day. All in they spent less than $300, had all results in less than 4 hours and was on their way back to the campground.....this is in Mexico of all places, are you kidding me?? My wife said they are now planning to use this hospital for their routine care and prescriptions, because of course, the same medicine is dirt cheap as well. Unreal....and our system is ruled by greed and massive government oversight. Makes me mad thinking about it!

Pitiful. I didn't know it was THAT cheap. I knew it was extremely cheaper than here but not like that.
They almost let me die and I was in a lot of pain for a year before they fixed me. Started feeling better within a week but I'm going to be in pain for the rest of my life because of how long it went before they saw me.
My fault totally for believing what I was taught and shown.

I'm glad they got past the cynicism and went. Great for them.

Anybody else's wife or significant other insist on telling you how to drive even though you've asked them eleventeen times not to?

Or your driving down the road, everything seemingly under control and then this gasp comes from the passenger seat and scares 3 years outta your life and 2 years worth of brake wear......over nothing.

Ever get to a stop after something like this has happened and try handing them the keys on the way back out to the car and they say......what? And you say......you drive, and they say......I don't want to drive, LMAO!

    Just wondering.

In Laredo, if you stay on I-35 in the right lane going south, the interstate ends and you will find yourself looking at a big bridge to Mexico. But the right lane veers off to a parking lot. Secured lot. Tons of bobtails parked there. Lots of American drivers would park there and walk to Mexico.

You’d save serious money buying your meds at the pharmacies. Most didn’t need a prescription. You’d save thousands getting your dental work there. Yes, quality work and the medical people spoke perfect English. Some of us got went on to even rent apartments (you could get a nice 3 bedroom apartment for $300/month in a gated community.)

But then, the violence got a little too rough...and Mexico was one of those places that you could get arrested for having a pocket knife. Things had gotten so bad that they got rid of all the Transitos (traffic cops) and the street were patrolled by the military. That’s Martial Law...there’s a whole different set of rules. It turned into a bloodbath. First, between the cartels, then the military. You could be sitting in a bar, and the soldiers roll up and open fire, snap a few pics and gone.

Was that Los Algodones by chance? They are a major medical tourist city right across from a casino on the Cal/Az border. Dental work is 1st rate at less than half the average US price.

It was some time ago but I remembersalmo Creston summit, fruitcake, winlaw, ainsworth hot springs, Sloan, grand forks, greenwood, bonanza summit, and more I can't remember. We hauled in convertible hopper-bottoms and hopper a-trains. I had a convertible and would load lumberout of Creston or grand forks. sometimes bagged minerals out of sirdar mostly east but some to the coast if I had a ltl load from the lower mainland to Regina. We also did some to the island and did 4 loads to a mixer/screener plant at a pit near Johnson's crossing yt. That was all in the early 90's and we unloaded to a 8 inch auger that a guy from near Creston that wore out 2 angers per year and scheduled where we would unload after we were loaded and checked in from Cranbrook. We loaded in Unity Sk for 3 years and Vanscoy sk for1.

Back when I was running the Evanston plant several of the guys that worked for me had that song set as the ringtone for when I was calling.
