I also agree with trades though not all out 4 year.college unless your wanting to go for engineering or something where money is. My brother went to St Ambrose in Dport IA and was 1 class shy of a 4 year.degree. he is a union Iron worker in Chicago and when he does.work he makes a ton of money! Unfortunatly the economy screwed him and hasnt worked in about a year!
My dad is a mechanic and has been for 30+ years! About to retire and go work somewhere else and collect a union pension 401k and a new paycheck. Hes only 55 too.

I was a service manager at a new car dealership in Pine City for alot of years. I hired alot of auto student techs to work for me. I attended that school in the early 90's to be a tech. I never ended up being a tech but it launched me into a different area of the auto industry.

I like being on the board because we help decide what kind off ciriculum they should teach.and what kind of equipment they should have.

I completely agree with what you say about people going to school. Tech colleges fill a
Big need for kids that don't want to go to a four year college and want to get into the work force.

I would actually take your statement a step further. Many kids are brainwashed into thinking they need to go to a four year school. A whole bunch more go to a 4 year school to study some crazy subject that will never pay the bills. This is not the case with tech schools.

I believe that college loans should be similar to business loans and should be based on the future earning potential of the career you are working towards. For example, if you want to study Latin, you would qualify for $4K in loans per year because that is the most you will be able to pay back. If you want to study computer programming, you might qualify for $15/year in loans because you will have a better earning potential. As long as the taxpayer is footing the bill, we should demand common sense in college tuition funding.

The only thing I could go to a 4 ye school for is engineering AG or Mechanical. Couldn't waste money on a degree in underwater basket weaving!

Tuition waiver baby, go play football for some NAIA school and attend a few years for free. Or if you're smart (and I wasn't) stay and finish it out debt free.

Programming is done in India or with H1-B visa people (cheap labor)...the American market has already crashed for jobs so you need to back off the amount for Computer Sciences. The kids are smart, they're seeing their parents dumped for cheap young labor from other countries and staying away from those fields... because there is no money for them when the big business and out sourced work is all done by non-citizens. :(

Likewise here Logan. I tell one of my 4 year degree friends who went to school for nothing special how much I make and they call my bluff. Then I show them a check stub....
