I have always like the computer log, and then printed, much neater, company I'm with now is on E-log, If I ever become dain bramiged again and buy another truck, Id go back to the computer log program again
Id just print my own,,,you can download log images online and make yourself a custom sheet in word. You can even prefill in your truck number and other info that wont change. You dont need 2 copies if your a one truck operation. 1 compy is for the driver and one is for the company...since you are both you dont need 2. Even in a bigger operation, electronic scanned copies can be sent to company. My company uses carbon, but is stupid since we transflow them in and still have the original.
Printer ink is expensive. You'd have to get 300 pages out of a cartridge to match JJKeller. I don't think a cartridge lasts that long plus buying the paper. It's a lot less hassle to go the JJKeller route. Any route you go is tax deductible. A single owner operator is not just a driver but he is also a company. Companies have to have logs on file for 6 months in case of an audit which can be your home base. Seven days in your immediate possession.
Printer ink is not expensive. buy an ink refill kit off of ebay and figure it out. as i said 500 pages of printer paper is only $3 at walmart.
I just ordered 3 cartridges each of black, cyan, magenta & yellow from https://www.ldproducts.com for my Brother MFC-J410w. Using coupon code SCARY it was a hair under $50 shipped to the house. From wal mart locally these same cartridges, all 12 of them, would have cost me $180.
I would have used a laser printer, but that's just me. I guess if you don't print much inkjet would be fine for printing black/white logs. We used an inkjet when we ran ddl since we printed 4 plus pages a day of logs. Didn't have to worry about running out of ink.
my lazer cost 100 bucks form dell and gets 9000 pages / 50 dollar toner. half a penny per page in toner. Inkjet generally runs $0.05/page if you buy OEM ink...cheaper if you buy refills
I've been running loose leaf, single copy, printed off my brother laser printers ever since I came to Landstar as they are real stingy with log books. They even give us a nice PDF of a log page, and since I scan them into LS's system from my laser printer, only one page is needed.
You guys really need to research how to refill those "throw away" ink cartridges. It might cost me 25 cents to refill my cheapo Canon printer. A bottle of ink, a tiny drill bit, tape, and a syringe needle is all you need. Kits are cheap and last forever on ebay
