I will say, in having worked on both Cats and Cummins, Cats are the only ones I've had break exhaust studs and that's a pain in the ### to fix. Turns a 4-6hr gasket job into a 12hr curse-fest. Of course, when the untrained monkey who is supposed to be a mechanic first breaks an EZ out in the bolt, then FORCES A METRIC BOLT INTO THE STANDARD THREADS YOU JUST TAPPED it makes it a bit more of a pain.

I really liked the N-14's. Just ran and ran. I took one of them to 1.4 million with nothing more than doing the overhead regularly, 1 injector, and an accessory drive seal. The guy who bought it put it right to work.
But as was said, there are good and bad in every motor brand lineup. Understanding the motor and using it right, along with sound maintenance practices that are specific to each motor, and every brand will have good motors that go well past 1 million. There is the occasional lemon. No guarantees in life.Joetro, cowboy_tech and wore out Thank this. -
Those are the best engines from those 3 manufacturers
CAT: 3406E, c-12, and c-15 6nz. Detroit: 12.7 series 60. Cummins: N-14.
If talking about scr engines, hard to know. -
That sums it up. The newer SCR / DPF stuff, the jury is still out.
