Something to keep in mind no matter where your thinking about going, companies call you for an interview but make sure you turn it around and interview them too. I don't mean just the recruiter track down a few of their drivers and talk to them too. Buy them a coffee and ask a few questions and get a feel for what they think of the company. As a last question ask an unhappy driver 3 positives and a happy driver 3 negatives. I've found that this more often than not can really help you decide what the company is really like

I actually have gone flatbed...and really don't want to stay there. I'm with Maverick and their recruiter "kind of" persuaded me to switch to flatbed. I say "kind of" because ultimately I made the decision. But I started out looking to enter their reefer division and when I was told there was a three week wait for a trainer in that div, I was convinced that flatbed wasn't so bad and I just might like it. NOT!

I've learned two things since I've now been out on the road for even the very short time I've been out there...

    1. I really think I'm going to enjoy driving for a liiving
    2. I don't want to strap and tarp a load in -3 degree temps with wind blowing in northern Wisconsin in February (did this!) ever again.

I'm going to ask for a transfer to TCD this week and see what happens.

P.S. I have no problem with automatic tranny's. Definitely seemed nice in the traffic jams in Cleveland and Indy last week!

With the right company pulling the right stuff you can make good money on flatbed. But honestly I made better money the last 2 years pulling reefer. CA drought might change that for me this summer though.
