I was trying to find out info on the pc miler. Do they offer updates from time to time, or are you stuck with whatever is on it when you buy it?
So what do you like best about it and what do you like least about it?

I have no idea about the updates, but I've been using my 440 for several months now and I'm happy with it. Its not perfect, but its good enough...just be sure to pay attention and don't take its word for everything.
There have been times that it has said go that way and I said "hell no", but there have also been times that I didn't follow its instructions when I should have.
But...thats truck driving. -
Their last update was in june of last year. They will email you when new ones are available. My favorite feature is being able to pick on the map which route you want to take. I pull mostly oversize loads so that comes in handy for the permit routes. My biggest complaint is when you set it to night driving, if you pull up a POI, it shows it on full brightness

I used my G P S last week in Maryland, got off I95 and got on S R 100 i knew were i was going but just for the hell of it i used the G P S. It said to get of the first exit which i did. Then i realized it was the next exit i needed, this dam thing took my twenty miles out of my way, i got back on I 95 N B and got back on S R 100 and the G P S got it right the second time. I only used it that day because i was trying to build up my confidence in them. Well that blew that idea.

I've been using the pcmiler since they came out. There is no best, they all have their own quirks. Its just a matter of taking the time to get used to them. B4 I bought the PCMILER. I had the lowerance 250C> It was great but its not a truck gps. I bought it just because lowerance has been making GPS longer than any one, way b4 they thought to put them in vehicles. Too bad they done make a truck unit

So if I understand what you said, I can look at the routing that the company gives me and then put that route in on the map so that it will then follow the route that the company recommends?
Thanks! -
yep you can do that, you just hit the "pick on map " button, and your ready to go.

This is a bit off topic...but I'm not so sure I'd use it that way.
I have never even looked at the company's suggested routing. Granted, I have a bit more experience than you (which only means that I know the roads).
Set the parameters (size, weight, your speed on the various types of roads, etc.)...punch in the address, double check the route in the atlas, and go...company routing is solely based on distance, but with the fuel mileage requirements we have a bit more "selection" is needed.
It has always worked for me...my mpg's are good most of the time (I get a lot of WV, PA, KY...so that knocks it down a bit at times) and my out of route miles are always well below the 10%. -
Actually the routing should be the same as your company's. Most company's use pcmiler as their routing software. I use the pick on a map feature because of all the permit loads I pull, the permitted route never agrees with logic-lol

Thanks for the info! Has it been pretty good dock to dock?
