Good decision Southbaydad! I have had my RM TND for quite a while now and am very happy with it. Keep checking their thread on here and they are constantly updating any issues they find. Mark is very helpful and he goes out of his way lots of times to help also. I haven't had any problems with mine.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!

Just use your nuvi and a bit of common sense and you should be fine,...Especially if your local,.....
Sooner or latter you'll know where your going,.... -
yes, have been in philly and nyc a few times each and a good many times in boston. had no routing issues in the cities so far.
Road_Hammer Thanks this. -
Don't know of a GPS that will do your route planning for you, but if you want to have a great display that you can look at and see easily, use Microsoft Streets and Trips on a big laptop. My 17 inch display beats the hell out of that little 3 inch display on a dash-mounted GPS, and I can save the image from there or the aerial view from Google Earth to my screensaver or wallpaper and have it right there when I'm near my destination. Screw a bunch of broker's directions!

Still, it's a nice thing to have. I find that turning off the directions when I get close to a shipper/receiver at night is actually best; when the directions are off, the display shows the name of the nearest cross street in big bold letters.
Otherwise, it's useful as an at-your-fingertips estimate of the remaining mileage for the trip. I use the Garmin as a sort of pre-pre-trip tool; in about 15 seconds it gives me an albeit rough estimate as to how long the trip will take.
The road atlas is still necessary, of course, as are any driver-made directions your company or the shipper/cons might have. But the Nuvi can help you when you get lost, as long as you err on the side of caution. If you have doubts about a turn it tells you to make, then don't make it.
I used to wish I could find a strictly truck-compliant GPS, but now I'm not sure it would be a good thing for me. Knowing that the Nuvi isn't expressly designed for a truck keeps me on my toes, gives me a healthy skepticism for anything it says. If I had one that had a greater claim to authority, I might allow myself to take it too seriously.
No machine is ever going to be perfect, and no matter how often it's right, it only needs to be wrong once. -
Thanks Greg that makes me feel alot better and convinces me to go and get it

I do knwo that Don yer dad said he was going to update it that day and I had him ship it to me next day and when I plugged it in,,,,,, it already had a new update.
ONE THING is dont understand is the "set origin" button?? the manual on line says nothing about it and the pics of the routing screen do not show the button???
ALSO what are the pros and cons of running == shortest vs. fastest routing, the manual doesnt really say anything about it - I am sure it still stays on truck routes?? but will it route me down dirt roads or tiny residential streets to do the shortest route??
I was in Birmingham last week and it ran me down these tiny streets (but still truck routes) and then BAM i was going into a bridge that showed 13'0" clearance??? I figured well it cant be wrong... can it??? as I sloooowly proceeded under the bridge I found i had the clearance and was told by a guy at my drop that the bridge is actually 13'7" ---guess the RM knew that but the pucker went up due to a tiny street at 5 am and no way out except to back up over 3 blocks -- anywayit worked out.
