903's were very popular & very well regarded Down Here... they made a Lot of people a Lot Money.. !!!

There's a couple of Large Fleets Today . who got to where they are Today on the Back of 903's..

The VT903 were Mostly 350Hp there was a few around with Air to Air aftercoolers that were 450+ Hp..

The US Army M2 Bradley infantry fighting track vehicle is powered by the 903. I believe the latest variant is an electronic 675 HP. Rumor always was Cummins was having trouble reaching horsepower goals on the first variant until they consulted some employees in Columbus that also did semi truck sled pulling. My Dad had a 74 IH Transtar with a VT903 320 HP back in the day, said it ran good.

Jammer', Feedman, haycarter and 4 others Thank this.

I haven't seen Cat 3208 mentioned. The farm I currently work for has 8 trucks with a 3208 in them, most have a turbo but a couple don't. They do well on the farm, but I don't know how they are as highway engines. Probably not very good.

Our best trucks are the Internationals with a Navistar DT466 engine. We have five dated 1978-1983, and one '89. The newer trucks (1997-99) with the DT466E are giving us some problems, but the mechanical ones are very reliable.

I dislike the two 1983 GMC Brigadiers with the Detroit two-stroke engines; they leak everywhere and are so loud. I hope they blow up while I'm here, that'd be very satisfying.

    Jammer' Thanks this.
