If I were you I would seriously consider the mighty big cam.
I think the price of the in frame kit went up. It used to be around $1,000 now I think it's maybe $1200 to $1400?
That will buy you exactly one nut on a Caterpillar engine. The bolt is extra. And if you need real parts for the caterpillar you can always re mortgage your house.
Which old engines??

That's not true Dino.. that will still get you the bolt & nut & 1/2 dozen LED chicken lights.. it won't get the lock washersRideandrepair, W923, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this.

It also gets you that view of the Big Cam in the rear view mirror...........getting smaller, and smaller, and smaller and smallerMAMservices, Isafarmboy, Feedman and 9 others Thank this.

Not nearly as fast as the bank account getting smaller. And smaller and smaller.
And if the kitty lover that has remortgaged his house comes up against a big cam like @OLDSKOOLERnWV ...
There's going to be a lot of tears over all that money that was thrown down the toilet...mile marker 27, Rideandrepair, spsauerland and 3 others Thank this. -
Oh, I think Ole Jim has put quite a few bucks into his builds and rebuilds as well, and I haven't remortgaged the house. And, I have been able to get any part I needed next day so far for my B Model, and the prices are reasonable. But, supply and demand do enter into the equation.jldilley, Feedman, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this.

I'am not sure I could hang with @OLDSKOOLERnWV .. but I wouldn't be upset if I got passed by him ..knowing it was him
In all honesty I would go broke faster if ( GOD Forbid ) I had a Come-a-long under the hood ... because my rates are based off of weight.. I'd be a broke joke because I couldn't make any coin having to run skinny so I could make decent time to get em kicked off my trailer before they were old enough to vote
You'll know it's me passing you Dino.. cause I'll flash my belt buckle and chicken lights at you when I pass you...Feedman, Rideandrepair, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this. -
That's a nice view ain't it
Rideandrepair, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
One thing that Cat has that outshines Cummins is parts availability. As long as you have a Cat part number and it doesn't really matter how old it is or what it came off of, Cat can almost always get it. I can't say the same for Cummins. Big Cam and even alot of N14 parts are hard to get genuine Cummins. You can get alot of aftermarket stuff for Cummins but that stuff can be iffy at times on quality. I think when it comes to older equipment, parts availability had to a big part of the equation when considering going that route, but every man has his own ideas of what's most important.jldilley, Rideandrepair, spsauerland and 4 others Thank this.

$750 for new custom built injectors with a $150 core return ain’t bad actually. And I had them in 2 days. Everything else is usually a phone call away, maybe 2 day wait tops.
But I think we all have felt the delay for parts here lately….?
As far as older engines go, I wouldn’t have a problem with the BC or 3406B either one. Actually a well built Silver 92 would suit me fine to be honest….jldilley, Feedman, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this. -
Come on @OLDSKOOLERnWV , let me have it!
ETA, I posted the same time as you dangit.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
