I understand that elogs will work with some older engines and some will not. I'm looking at having a c16 built. I would like to be exempt, but still be able to run elogs if I lease on with a company that required elogs. Which models will work with elogs. Is the 1mm 1999 the only c16 that would work?

    UnderwoodInc Thanks this.

Any electronic engine should work with elogs. If it has a diagnostc port should be fine.

I would get in touch with the elog manufacture and ask them.

I would think it depends on what protocol the vehicle runs under. J1939 is the current standard and has been in use from the late 90's/early 2000's to present. Prior to that I believe it was the J1587 protocol that was used by heavy trucks. Not sure what standard an older Cat uses and what elog devices would be compatible with it though. Like Swaan said, might be best to call the manufacturer and find out.

    I have a friend with 2 trucks
    1 is an 07 international with a cat C15
    the other is a 97 W900 L with a 12.7 60 series detroit.
the ELD will not work on the detroit. numerous attempts at a remedy and it's a no go

This is what I'm trying to avoid! About to dump a ton of money into a glider. Would hate to build a 200k truck and not be able to work it.

If your cat has a 7CZ serial #, you’ll be fine.
