If you plan to ever live in Illinois then I would say Illinois. They are one of two states who do not allow you to transfer your cdl there without retesting.

They do not allow you to use a cheat sheet when doing pretrip.

Hmmm..... Is there any advantage to having a CDL from one state over another? (I understand that some regions of the country have incoming &/or outgoing freight problems, and some companies have hiring areas, etc.)

Is it safe to guess that having a cdl from a state that is usually in a high freight area better because of hiring and hometime options?

    What would those states be?

The testing for CDL's is pretty much the same in all states, because of federal mandates. So the best is to find a state where you can afford to live and would like to live. Be sure you get approved for all visa's and green card. Also be certain you can verify 3 years past employment with no gaps. They can be quite sticky on that.

I believe it was around $3800 for 5 weeks. That includes CDL testing, dorm fees and skid pad.

They try to keep the instructor/student ratio at 3 to 1 or under if possible.

Since I've been here I've driven Freighliners with 8, 9 and 10 speeds and a Kenworth (today) with a 13. Yesterday's road trip was about 30 miles and todays was around 17 (that's MY miles). We spent the remainder of the day working on 90 degree and lane change backing.

    Good luck with your decision.
