    Hello. It's me. Gamgee again.

So I didn't throw in the towel after the first experience with the recruiter from the first Co.
I found another Carrier and they professionally and courteously listened to my questions, didn't make me feel as if it was taboo or insulting to ask questions. They have an Academy but not in every state. They want to send me to a private Truck Driving School near me for 4 weeks. - Which is good for me.(I can go home nights and on weekends.)

Long story short.(ha ha I lie - inserted later - for truth lol) After passing the background check they accepted my application into their "Academy" program through the private company in my area.

But. After waiting all day to hear back from the school(through email - with the start up info) and having to make several phone calls to inquire further from the school myself.

I now finally - at the end of the day, was sent the Carrier's contract info, the docusign to actually sign the carrier's Student Tuition - 2 Year commitment to "Pay for the student loan." Not to mention the info to get my DOT Physical and Med Card. (I already have a DOT Med Card good for two years but - they want another done through their company. And with their Consent to Info - IDK what it is called - Chain of Release Contract.) P.S. as I stated in another thread. I also have my SOS DMV CDL CLP.(the Commercial Learner's Permit.)

Guess what I am trying to say is. I am overwhelmed - at the last minute - being given all this information and being asked to sign their Tuition Payment Two Year Contract. The carrier did tell me I could pay for the Classes on my own. But that was after the Truck Driving School told me that the out of pocket cost for a self pay student was $2,000 less than the cost of the Carrier's cost to take out a loan.

*face palm* - This Carrier is not even obligated to hire me. I mean. - Only if I pass do they hire me so. - If. For some reason I do not pass and obtain my CDL at the end of the classes, then I will be stuck paying back the school at the FULL cost of the financed loan that The Carrier took out.

Either way. If I self pay at a $2,000 - less non financed amount or if I sign and am financed by the Carrier. The carrier is not obligated to hire me.

I feel like I am striking out for Mordor alone.

Is there a Fellowship out there that can decipher this lol hurried "long story short" message and offer some sort of advice or encouragement as to which way to proceed - which path to take?(Should I self pay the tuition? - If I have the funds at $2,000 less? Or. - Should I sign this 2 Year Carrier Financed Contract?)

I feel like Sauron is breathing down my neck to make decisions. And. I done feel so good.

To me. The Fellowship makes all the difference. But. I still need to carry my own weight and take the steps necessary with my own two "Hobbit" feet. The decision is mine.

Oh. I really need to read the book again. Why does Bilbo Baggins decide to go with the dwarves in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"

    Gamgee

P.S. I am not delusional. lol I know I am not really a "Hobbit." I just find Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "The LOTR" books great reference material and fun. lol It's like an Allegorical Picture Book. The Bible, of course is The Owner's and Users Manuel for Life! *insert for political correctness - IMHO - Gamgee

P.P.S. Can Truck Drivers have one foot in "Middle Earth?"

I would self pay. Looks to me like that would save a whole bunch of potential future headaches -

The dog has another companion living in her retirement home.(This hound dog has been all over the country ~ from Oklahoma to Illinois to Colorado to Illinois to Washington and back to Illinois) lol She is retired, (The dog.) She deserves retirement and we are paying for it. lol ~ Of course I will miss her! But. I have put my children first all my life and it is either ~ do something for me, take a career path that I want. Or. ~ Stay at home. ~ Never knowing.
    And.
The Co said that after 200 hours OTR with a Trainer. I could get my own route local. - If I want. Or continue OTR. They said they have needs for both. - Local routes in my area and/or of course OTR Long distance. My choice.
Anyway. I should be home for Christmas. If I start now.
Thanks for thinking of my Best Friend @Chinatown :) She is the very Best

    Who is this carrier?
Forget a 2 year contract. 1 is bad enough.
    I'd pay myself.
    Doggies come first!

AWwwww Your dog is so cute. Another hound? Mine is a talker. I mean. Literally. She listens and responds lol Gonna go talk to her now. I am not joking. I will probably video Face to Face phone call her when I am at a rest area with signal. sigh I know that could be a problem. The signal issue. But There are ways. And. My dog is ever faithful. Has the nose of a hound and memory of an elephant. She might get depressed when I am gone and I am worried about that.

Thanks for your advice. I am leaning that way.

Yup.... She was a Shorthair. Gone now. My heart died with her. She talked. Best person I've known to walk the face of this earth in my lifetime.

LOL it sems like nothing is free anymore. personally I would pay if I thought I needed to go to school at all to get a license. No company is going to pay for any bodies school, without the means to potentionaly recoupe their investment plus some, it is just the way it works.

I strongly suggest you focus on which company you should work for. There are a thousand trucking companies that hire brand new CDL holders, I would not sign any contract with any company for anything until they tell you the Cents Per Mile (CPM) they will pay you and how many miles they give new drivers, plus how often you will get time at home, etc.

Are you trying to work in America or Canada, BTW?
