T mobile guy claimed that there service doesn't throttle down on contract service it stays 4G unlimited, now no contract by the month does.
Salesman offered to send me a sim card for my old att aircard and then I'd just have to buy 50.00 worth of service to try them out.
But then I wouldn't know what 4G is like, the one thing they don;t tell you is 4G isn't in as many places as you'd think. There's still some places that only get 2G and it loads like AOL did in the old days. Only thing I can say so far is there's lots of choices I'm starting to lean towards the smart phone and like the pictures of the newest windows phone but it's over 500.00. 2 years of potentially bad service makes me think a lot. My main problem is the way att treated me after 15 years going to cut my service off after 5g's of use on a unlimited contract there days are numbered with me.

that's like ATT phones, wether you're running on a rural 3G or an upgraded 4G tower, the phone always says 4G or E because there is no 3G indicator :biggrin_25523: so ATT tries to make you think they have a huge 4G network when that's hardly the case today unless you're near a major city.

I'm on Sprint and run coast to coast.

I have pretty good coverage in most areas,.. rural outback areas excluded. Only areas where I should have good coverage and dont are north western Indiana and various parts of Ohio. Everywhere else I have pretty good signals.

Even on 3G I can still watch Netflix and Hulu, although not at HD quality video. I have learned to work my drive time to incorporate my 10hr breaks to include areas that have 4g coverage and when the opportunity is there I will 'borrow' free wifi from Super 8, Motel 6 and others that are within reach. Even if they require a password,.. its usually just guest/guest and when all else fails I just go in and ask what the login/pass word is. No one ever questions me.

As for Sprint,.. I routinely use around 10gb a month. I've never been cut off or gotten any warnings even though their hotspot policy clearly states that even though your data is unlimited,.. they dont want you to use more than 5gb per month.

Not sure if its an app you can download. I had an HTC EVO3D but it kept giving me issues so I splurged and treated myself to the new Samsung Galaxy. It has a few apps that are Samsung specific compared to my old HTC. I personally liked the HTC better,.. but it was too problematic.

I just hit the edit button on the home screen and it gives me a list,. I go to 'Data Usage' and thats the screen it gives me. Tells me how much I've used per the period I tell it,.. I can set a data limit warning and it tells me how much data my apps are using. Obviously tethering uses the most. I hold the Home and Power button together to do a screen cap,.. upload it to photobucket and viola. There it is.

And all this sitting here in the middle of no where Amish Acres, Middlebury Indiana on 3G. No problems browsing the web, doing email and posting here on the forums.

I have that setup with Tmobile. You'll find a few dead zones in Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee but for the most part you'll get at least EDGE in most rural areas and 3/4g in urban areas. I'm able to get reasonable internet speeds even with GPRS for my netbook. Won't be sufficient for streaming or videos below 3g but will allow you to surf the web, etc.

I live in Philly and have T-Mobile, been with them for at least 10yrs and in the last yr or so their service has gone to crap. The part of the industry I am in I am all over the country and there are many, many, many dropped call issues and miles upon miles with no service when my fellow drivers, on other services, have no problems. There are times I can't get a signal inside my house when I am home. Personally, I would not recommend T-Mobile to anybody. As far as internet goes, when I do have a signal, I have an app on my phone called EZ Tether. It allows you to hook up the computer to the phone but the usage doesn't register with your provider and drive your rates up. There is a free version I used for a while but then I bought the full app. onsale for $4.99 or something like that from Amazon. Definitely worth the price.

I forgot too, the 4G thing is very hit or miss. Phone will show full bars with the 4G lit up in green and as soon as you try to search or make a call, whatever the 4G drops to 2G or just plain G, it's ridiculous, and it happens all over the country.

That's the way my phone is too. It's partially marketing but also because it will switch back and forth between UMTS (3g) and HSDPA+(4g) depending on network load so to have it flashing between 3g and 4g would be confusing.

That's the information I'm looking for. I mainly travel 59,24,75,40,81 and 78 all the way Ms. to NJ and 59/20 to dallas and 59/10 to houston. I have an old 2/3G airard so anything except AOL might be an improvement.
