It happened in Georgia at the welcome center/rest stop on I20 coming out of South Carolina. Thanks for the responses. It doesn't make sense to me either since all you hear about is how truckers don't get enough rest. This guy definitely had an ego problem.

Okay, so it's not just me that has had that happen in Ohio. I wasn't too happy with the dick that woke me up at 3:30am, I can tell you that. But, I just made him give me his name, badge number, supervisor's name, car #, and had him sign my log sheet in the notes section, with my explanation of him waking me for the inspection. He complied with everything, so we did the inspection. I passed, he left, I went and got a coffee and left too. Not like I was going to be able to go back to sleep anyways.

Shortstop, did you call the DPS in Georgia to find out any more info about whether or not this is standard operating procedure for GA? I'm very curious to know the answer to that question.

I don't understand how they are allowed to do this. As far as I know the MTO here in Ontario Canada can't perform a search if you are pulled over in a designated area. The only time they can do a search if you are breaking the law.

Why can't the police wait until the driver gets going before they pull them over?

I don't know about being in a rest area, I have escorted a truck off the interstate to the rest area to inspect it. I have woke a driver up that has parked illegally on the interstate illegally and inspected him. You can't park on the interstate's because someone will end up underneath the rear end before the night's out.
