Well that depends. The post I answered above was pertaining to the original version of the PCM430 model. Is that what you have? When they came out with the 440, 540, and 740 models during the summer, those have updated maps on them. In order to let the original buyers of the 430 models "catch up" they put the new maps online with instructions on how to accomplish this.

So, if you have a 430 and want to know if yours has the update, click on "Menu / Settings / Next page / Next page again / and then "About CoPilot." If yours says "Copyright 2009" in that screen then it is the latest. If it says "2008" then you should get the update and follow the instructions at www.pcmnav.com under the link that says "Application Update" on the right.

If their support says that there is no update yet for the 440/540/740 yet, then they are correct. I'll post up here somewhere for you when the next update is available for those and for the 430's.

too bad, as I said in my original post, my unit is the handheld (as in handheld computer) software I purchased, with horribly outdated maps that they are apparently not offering support for, nor upgraded maps.

They should have told me that in June when I purchased it.

All my research shows the TND 500 is the one to go with.

I use Microsoft 'Streets and Trips 2008' on my 17" display laptop computer. I can save the map of my destination as tempo screensaver or wallpaper, and it has a gps antenna to stick to the windshield. It's smokin' hot!

I've been using S&T since '05, and I like it a lot better than the simple TomTom type units. I'd have to look, but I believe someone's selling a template for truck drivers, including scales, truck stops, etc.

It's, for me anyway, a lot better than blindly following some voice telling you "turn left into this blind alley", as I'm still looking at the map and planning the route on a larger screen. I still fall back on my old Rand Mcnally when I have any doubts about bridge clearances and the like.

I got the 7in world nav truck gps I bought off a schneider driver for 120$. He was quiting for good so I got a steal. I bought a 70$ map upgrade in Jan and it routes me #### good. Never routes to no truck route or a low bridge. It has worked great with the update 8.11

the ALK copilot truck for handhelds is out now, should be available for purchase soon.
The maps appear great, can be updated, and the support seems real!

If you have a handheld unit (I have the Ipaq hx2490) you are going to love this program.
