Thirteen years ago, I plead guilty to misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. My driving record is spotless and I've had no other charges or convictions. However, I have been rejected by numerous companies due to this unfortunate event. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to overcome this to secure a job as a driver? Truck driving has always been something I've always wanted to do and now a single 13-year-old mistake is keeping me from it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Who hires someone with a misdemeanor?

Have you tried CFI. My understanding is that they deal with issues like that on a case by case basis. May be worth a phone call. Good luck

Have you tried to get it expunged? At any rate, I've never had a problem getting hired anywhere with a misdemeanor conviction.

The WIOA Program in your state will give you free cdl school.
Many companies hire felons, so you're good to go with that misdemeanor.
Which state are you in.?austinmike, CrappieJunkie and slow.rider Thank this. -
If you're going to have any record, isn't a misdemeanor better than a felony?
Tb0n3 and slow.rider Thank this. -
I don't think it's the misdemeanor that's the problem. I believe it's the reason for the misdemeanor, that is the problem. Places don't like gun crimes and that's how ignorant people see concealed weapons charges, as a gun crime.
You'll find a place, get your cdl then find a job. Good Luckslow.rider and bryan21384 Thank this. -
I tend to believe that's the reason too. I'm not judging OP for his misdemeanor. We all screw up. I've got a few misdemeanors myself. I'm not judging the companies either. I find it a little unfair to label people as ignorant because of how they view a gun charge. Companies are protecting their business that's all. They would probably not want to chance. Another poster suggested expunging that charge. That's a good idea. I expunged my first marijuana charge. I might as well have left if because my dumb ### ended up catching more marijuana charges lol....it cost me about 300 bucks to do it I remember correctly. That's a small proce to pay to get your career started.Chinatown, slow.rider and Jaebo74 Thank this.
